Gloire Aelfaz Paluku, also known as Aelfaz, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist from
the Democratic Republic of Congo, raised in Makindye, Kampala, Uganda. Art has been
central to his identity from an early age, developed through constant experimentation
and exploration. His practice, including portraiture, goes beyond likeness to explore
expression, identity, and emotional depth. Aelfaz refuses to be typecast, constantly
evolving his style and approaching each project with enthusiasm and dedication.Rooted in Afro culture, Black heritage, and the Afro diaspora, his work reflects both
personal history and collective memory. Growing up in vibrant urban communities, he was shaped by the people, environments, and creative energy around him. Hip hop culture, community collaboration, and everyday life further inspire his visual language, blending personal storytelling with cultural expression. His work has been featured in exhibitions including NOCTURNE (Noisemakers),
Interiors at 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery, and Arte & Movement at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for the Afro Latin Festival. In 2025, he curated Art in Motion at Bedford Row in Halifax and has completed numerous private commissions and murals.Since immigrating to Canada in 2021, Aelfaz has settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he is pursuing an Architectural Engineering Technician diploma at NSCC. Integrating his artistic practice with design, he continues to expand his creative work while bridging visual arts, fashion, and architecture, reflecting both his lived experiences and the communities that shaped him.
