The painting “Man in a Boat” is a large work that was made over a 5 month period. It is an image of a man rowing a dory with his dog in front of a red building; a tradition maritime scene. The marks in the painting are fractured and the quality of the paint is displayed by the splashes, drips and dry brush strokes.
This painting is made from a reference photo of a flood in the rural Maritimes. The painting's marks are very deliberate and planned resulting in a crisp image. Within the grid shown, one section was painted at a time at random and separate colours were mixed for the same purpose but by using the right tone it functions correctly and results in greater visual interest.

The “Pink Houses” painting is loosely based off of a photo of an island in Iceland. The florescent pink paint and a loose sketch were used as the starting point. The rest was completed accordingly made up of many marks and brush strokes that don't connect but still result in a cohesive image.
“Red Buildings” is an almost abstract painting but with attention to small areas and with the use of linear line reveals an image. The marks on the painting are very busy but the use of white counteracts that and appears as fog on the waterfront scenery.
