  • W. Froude, Nova Scotia.

  • W. Froude is a Canadian oil and watercolour painter and muralist, originally from
Toronto and now based in East Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. His work is shaped by the maritime, industrial, and natural environments of the Atlantic region, informed by his experience as a millwright at the Halifax Shipyard. This background gives him a grounded understanding of structure, labour, and material presence, allowing him to translate everyday coastal and working-class narratives into vivid contemporary
    imagery.

Froude’s practice spans landscape, still life, figurative painting, and large-scale murals, unified by a bold and expressive approach to colour and mark-making. His work is defined by strong silhouettes, rhythmic brushwork, and a graphic compositional sensibility that bridges observation with emotional resonance. Moving fluidly between oil, watercolour, and mural applications, he creates both intimate works on paper and commanding public pieces, each grounded in a cohesive visual language.

Rooted in a deep connection to place and personal history, Froude’s work explores
themes of memory, identity, and the lived experience of Atlantic Canada. Whether in the studio or on the wall, his paintings reflect a commitment to craftsmanship and
storytelling, offering a contemporary perspective shaped by both his urban origins and the coastal environment he now calls home.
