My apartment building had just been sold, so I was being forced out of my home when I learned about The Home Show. My conception of home had just been utterly shaken. I felt like I needed to express and incorporate ways of symbolizing the insecurity inherent in renting.
Everyone wants to live somewhere that is safe, secure, and beautiful. But, when you are renting, the safety and security are in someone else's hands ...and too many landlords let the buildings we live in deteriorate.
With the current housing crisis, a growing number of people feel like "home" is becoming more and more precarious and out of reach. Despite this, we still create our own beauty and comfort in them as best we can.
