Picture Canadian art in your own home with new 14Bells.com feature
Technology has caught up with my wishes! You now have the ability to virtually place a painting from 14 Bells Fine Art Gallery right on your wall. Many sites show you artwork in a generic room but this new app lets you see it in your own; with your own furniture, your own paint colour, the rest of your art collection.
"Picture It" does provide some sample room photos that you can play with but the best part is that with the click of your phone or tablet you can upload a photo of your wall and place your chosen art in the space. Or you can go LIVE! Hold up your phone and adjust the painting as you stand in the room.
How it Works
"Picture It" is part of 14Bells.com so there is no need to download anything. Just navigate to the painting you like. A bright blue bar will appear at the bottom of your screen. Click the bar.
The app will show you the painting in some pre-set rooms. You can move the painting to the desired location with your finger on your touch screen.
The pre-set rooms are nice but I like real rooms better! Once you have clicked the blue bar and are in the app, click the yellow camera icon on the bottom right. You will then be given the option to to use "Live View" or "Take Photo or Upload".
Live view is fun but I actually prefer the upload option; it gives you the freedom to play around and you don't require as steady of a hand. The app will ask you for access to your camera. For live view, hold your phone up to your wall and adjust the sizing with the sizing bar on the right of the screen. But like I said, I prefer the upload option.
The fun starts when you upload the photo of your own room!
Once the room uploads, move the painting to the desired location using your touch screen. There are a few other adjustments you can make to give you the best results.
The yellow gear icon will let you enter the actual or estimated size of the room so the painting will show to the proper scale.
The yellow "level" icon on the left will allow you to adjust the angle and level if your room photo is not exactly straight.
Finally, the down green arrow on the right will let you download the picture. Save it to your phone and dream about having the actual painting in your house! And we can make that happen. The paintings are for sale of course, and 14 Bells offers an on approval and rental service program to physically try the art in your home. (within the Halifax area).
Note: the app is also compatible with your laptop and desktop. Just have some photos of your room available on your computer to upload to the site. And if you are having a tough time making it work just email me (cheryl@14bells.com) a photo of your room and I will have some fun fitting some art into your room!
