Anne Launcelott

Archival Photographic Paper

18" X 24" Framed

Anne is a self-taught street and travel photographer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Anne received her first camera as a birthday gift from her father for her 15th birthday
and she has been taking photos ever since. For over 25 years, she worked mainly in
black and white and did her own printing, but when she went digital in 2010, colour
photography became her main medium and focus of her artistic expression.
Anne’s photography is inspired by people and the themes of everyday life. She took her
first photography workshop in 2010 with the famed New York street photographer Jay
Maisel and he greatly influenced her use of colour, light and gesture. On a photography
expedition to Myanmar with the legendary photographer Steve McCurry in 2012, Anne
knew she had found her niche, combining street photography and travel in countries
where she feels she has traveled back in time.

Anne’s passion for photography is driven to always push herself to do better, to learn
from experiences and try to produce photographs that truly capture the moment and
successfully convey atmosphere and emotion.
Anne has been in group exhibitions throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and
in Argentina, South America. She has had many successful solo exhibitions in Halifax
and had her first major international solo exhibition in Rybinsk, Russia in 2018. She has
had her photographs chosen for publications is books, magazines and newspaper
articles. She authored and photographed her first book “We are Nova Scotia, 100
Portraits by Anne Launcelott” which was published in May of this year. Her
photographs are in several collections: Photography Museum of Lishui, China, The Art
Bank of Nova Scotia, and The Canadian foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation,
Toronto, Ontario.
